Flonne: Disgaea Hour of Darkness
Why I chose this character: Even though I couldn't really get into the game itself (I'm not fond of strategy RPGs), I fell in love with the characters. Flonne especially caught my attention. Her bubbly attitude and overflowing cuteness just really appealed to me for some odd reason. I also loved her outfit. I thought it would be both comfortable and flattering since most everything that I don't like physically is covered.
Construction Details: The vest was made out of peachskin fabric, I believe lined with a mystery fabric that was a bit thicker since I didn't want it to be see through. I just used a simple vest pattern for it, and then I sewed some ruffle trim to the bottom hem. The collar was the most hap-hazard part of this costume. I literally rushed through it before leaving for the convention. It's a separate piece entirely, and therefore it flopped around like mad if I didn't secure it well enough. The sleeves were also made of the same peachskin fabric. The bloomers were just basic cotton. The most difficult part was the... dress thing. I wasn't sure whether it was a dress or a bodice at the time, but I figured it was a bodice. Thinking back, a weird bodice doesn't go very well with bloomers.
The wings were made of thick foamie which were inserted through the back of the costume and attached with Velcro onto a little harness that attached around my shoulders with elastic. They didn't end up staying out very well, and kinda flopped around a lot. But at least they were visible in pictures. The wig was purchased from Amphigory and I cut bangs into it. The bow was just some blue broadcloth with a wire frame underneath to keep it up. Since I didn't sew in any guides for the wire, it just kinda looked lumpy. But at least I know what to do right if I ever decide to remake this adorable costume again.
Comments: Besides a few mistakes here and there and some accuracy issues, this is probably the most well-made of my early costumes. Maybe if time permits, I'll redo this costume... or at least do another version of her.
