Maya Fey: Ace Attorney
Why I chose this character: While playing through the Ace Attorney series, I had a certian liking for Maya. I thought she'd be an easy and comfortable costume.
Construction Details: The entire costume was made out of plain old cotton fabric. The obi was lined with interfacing with fabric sewn and wrapped onto it. It fastened with velcro on the side with the bow. In the end, it didn't work out as well as I hoped it would, so I'd definately like to retry this method again. Wrapping cloth around the waist and tying it doesn't exactly look quite right in real life on a chubby girl. n_n; The Jacket itself was borrowed from my friend Sugar, after I miscalculated and made mine about 5 inches too short. The neckband of the kimono part really needed better interfacing too. -_-
The wig was just a plain black cleo wig. For the topknot, I made an attachment to go on the head seperately so that I could use the wig for other costumes. This made from foam, hotglue, and wig extentions. Then the base was made out of model magic and caulk to help attach it to the wig. Fabric was present on the bottom so that it could be saftey-pinned and attached to the wig.
Maya's Magatama was made from model magic that was carefully sanded and painted. All of her purple ball thingies were made from smooth foam balls (the bigger one was reshaped and sanded, then covered in paperclay to smooth it.) Each were painted and then covered with 4-5 coats of clear gloss so they were super shiny. The flip flops were an awesome find on Ebay.
Comments: I really enjoyed wearing this costume. Of course, I had the constant thought of "This is what Maya would like after eating too many yummy hamburgers" XD I'm planning on remaking several elements of this costume, as I'd love to continue wearing it. Sadly, after I moved most everything was lost.
